Stamp your Travel Nebraska Passport

At Arbor Day Farm Tree Adventure

Arbor Day Farm Tree Adventure is one of 80 attractions featured in the 2012 Nebraska Passport, a program that encourages travelers to explore Nebraska. Participants collect stamps from participating attractions and then redeem their passports for prizes.

Visitors to the Tree Adventure can have their passports stamped from May 1 through September 30, 2012.

For each completed tour, participants receive a Nebraska Passport T-shirt. Travelers can also win a $25 GROW Nebraska gift card (for 25 stamps) and a Canon Powershot digital camera (for 40 stamps).

In addition, a grand-prize drawing for an iPad valued at approximately $800 will be held in October.

The passport program was created by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development’s Travel and Tourism Division, and complete contest details and list of all the stops on the 2012 Nebraska Passport can be found online at NebraskaPassport.com.

Please join us to celebrate the unveiling of Arbor Day Farm's newest outdoor art installation, Art in the Woods.

This collection of six nature-inspired pieces will encourage Arbor Day Farm visitors to see and interact with the natural world in new ways. More than 30 artist submissions were received for Art in the Woods, with media that ranged from stained glass and steel to willow branches and ceramics.

We're expecting a number of the artists to be present for this event, providing an opportunity to meet them and hear about their inspiration for the pieces selected.

After opening on June 9, the Art in the Woods exhibit will remain in place for Summer and Fall 2012.

You've probably heard of Fashion Week and Shark Week... but did you know about Pollinator Week?

It's an international celebration of pollinators -- bees, birds, butterflies, etc. -- and a time to recognize the important work they do in our ecosystem. Pollinator Week is observed June 18-24, 2012.

At Arbor Day Farm Tree Adventure, we'll be showing our pollinator appreciation with a variety of fun events:
> Discovery Rides daily at 1pm, with special emphasis on what pollinators do and how to attract them
> Special pollinator-themed crafts for children
> June 23 & 24: come to the Tree Adventure in a pollinator costume (wings, antennae, even a bee suit!)

Nature Explore / Outdoor Classroom Project is presenting a 2012 Leadership Institute: Designing, Constructing and Sustaining Nature-Based Outdoor Classrooms for Children, July 8-12, 2012, at Lied Lodge & Conference Center.

This comprehensive, four-day institute offers educators in-depth, research-based workshops. Designers and contractors will receive comprehensive information on all facets of designing and constructing research-based natural outdoor classrooms.

The institute includes an Opening Reception the evening of July 8, breakfast and lunch July 9–12, optional evening activities, and a “toolkit” of resource materials for each participant.

Discover something new every season at Arbor Day Farm Tree Adventure. Here you can hike miles of forested trails, climb a 50-foot-tall treehouse, embark on the guided Discovery Ride, and play and learn in the Nature Explore Classroom. Whether you swim laps or just splash around, all guests are welcome in the olympic-sized indoor pool. Take a relaxing soak in the Jacuzzi or steam away stress in the red cedar sauna. Young swimmers will appreciate the separate baby pool, just 18" deep. The pool is open daily from 6:30am to 11:00pm, and is reserved exclusively for Lied Lodge guests.

You'll take the Discovery Ride to our Preservation Orchard, home to more than 60 unusual apple varieties. Stroll through the historic orchard to smell the blossoms in April, or -- in season -- pick an heirloom variety and taste apple goodness no longer available in grocery stores. A Nature Interpreter enhances your experience with information about our living genetic repository for future food sources in changing climates. Available April through October.

The ceremony includes a tree (ranging 4-feet to 7-feet tall) -- choose from 67 different species -- with a small plaque describing the tree and the person or event being honored. Shovels and mulch provided. The arborist team at Arbor Day Farm will provide ongoing care for your living monument. Available April through November.
